Electrify Your Foils

This is a life saver for any integrated mast that's being removed on and off the board after a session or for battery swaps on trench boards. Too easy being able to pick up the mast and having the base unit locked on as one piece!

We now have the power of choice thanks to the Foil Drive gods....my new Gen 2 came with a 20 cm cable but with the additional 50 mm of box I thought the 15 cm wound be better. A couple of emails 10 mins in the work shop and all done. Super easy to change very simple. Just follow the clip Paul put out.

So you can’t quite stump up the cash for the Gen 2 system, but the Foildrive Plus is within reach.
Don’t despair, the Plus is an excellent system for the light to medium weight foiler and with the 3 blade prop even the heavier foilers will get going with a bit of wave assist.

Yes, there is a battery box on top of the board, but a well placed box is not in the way and great to put your hand on when getting from prone to standing.

There are many points that make the Plus system not only the most affordable but also the most desirable system.
* Only 120 grams heavier than the lightest Gen 2 Slim performance but over double the run time.
* Zero extra drag under the board.
* Zero connectivity issues.
* Simple maintenance and minimal corrosion concerns.

Unless your a super lightweight the 3 blade hub is a huge advantage for most Foildrive use other than 100% throttle efoil use.

Not only will it give you extra boost to get going but it will allow you to get foiling even when the battery is almost depleted. This mean you can use a smaller wing than you would normally use with the two blade hub, important in the surf when use of overly large wings are not desirable.

At my 80kgs I can get flying relatively easily on a sub 40lts board on a 1200sqcm front wing at low battery charge. Although not designed for efoiling, if your gentle with the throttle, keep it to under 80% you won’t have a problem with overheating, the Plus happily handles short bursts of 100%.

Another bonus is the entry into the water when settling back to power mode is much smoother than the 2 blade prop.

Note that battery life is similar to whether on the two blade or 3 blade hub, even though the throttle % will be showing about 10% less than with the two blade, you get nothing for free.

In just a few months, the Foil Drive has reshaped my view of foiling. Prior to the Foil Drive, I used the wing as a means to get out to the back of the waves and ride in. It worked very well and I never considered that an alternate would drop in and replace most of my winging days. The Foil Drive has done just that. It is a reliable taxi to the back section and a little boost to get me right on foil without delay.
Without fighting the waves and wind, I can go straight to the surfing. Without fear of coming off foil, I can attempt things that I would have otherwise avoided. Every day. All year. No regard for the wind and little care about the weather. In two months, my riding has improved on so many levels.

With every ride, every charge, I am improving. When most wingers are forced off the water by the doldrums of the Floridian summer, I am getting the most out of glassy smooth waves and sunrise rides. The Foil Drive is a way to have great rides when the conditions are not ripe.

Before buying, you should know that it is not an efoil. It can mimic an efoil for a few minutes at a time, which can be fun, but it does not have the thrust or power of an efoil. So it is probably best to use this with something else supplementing the ride like your own pumping, a wing, or a paddle.

The gear, when properly maintained, will last, even in the harsh salt water conditions. The batteries, though they seem somewhat expensive, are the best the industry has to offer and will last much, much longer than one might expect if taken care of properly.

I love the Foil Drive. I love the ability to ride when I want and how I want. No more giant wings and waiting around for a white cap. No more fear on a downwinder that the wind will die off half way home. It is one of the best foiling tools I have ever used. I am all in and a true believer!

I have slapped my FD on about 8 different boards from 40 liters to 140 liters. Such an awesome tool to play with and work on your skills.
